Olivia Munn is the worst addition to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart in … well, ever. She’s just.not.funny. And worse than that, she just comes off kind of … dumb. And yet she’s always giving interviews about how women can be funny, smart, AND pretty. Note to Olivia: you are only one of those things.
(I remember flipping through Cosmo when I was getting my hair done at some point a couple months ago, and there was some story about Olivia about how she “Kicks Ass and Takes Names!!!1!” and it was about how she told off some popular actor or director or agent or something. Only she didn’t even really tell him off. It was just pathetic and lame and typical of the needless hype created around this girl.)
Anyway, in addition to not being that funny, Olivia has terrible fashion sense. Sometimes she looks great. Those times are few and far between. Normally she just looks … bleh.
OBSERVE.
Now, most of us have the good sense God gave a stick of butter not to leave the house like this. Olivia’s idea here is good, but the way she went about executing it is bad, bad, bad.
I shall explain where she went wrong.
The top is fine. It emphasizes her toned arms.
The high waist is fine – it cinches in nicely at her waist and creates an hourglass shape and shows off how petite she is.
HOWEVER.
The length is all wrong. Skirts that fall a couple inches past the knee look good on very few women, and even then, only in certain cuts. A pencil/fitted skirt that goes this far past the knees is just bad. It’s out of proportion and makes her legs look short and stumpy.
Further adding to the short-and-stumpy problem when it comes to her legs are those black booties. They’ve been popular for a while and they’re STILL popular, and most women don’t understand that if they’re not worn right, they cut off the line of the leg in a really awkward place, and make you look, you guessed it, short and stumpy.
NOT a good look for any woman.
To fix this up, here’s what I did:
(Um, I seem to have forgotten to include the little white tank top I threw in since the top is sheer, but it’s only $3 and keeps us under budget.)
Floral Woven Top ………. $17.80
Millenium Stretch Pencil Skirt ………. $16.99
Fergalicious Pumps in Black ………. $49.95
Textured Interlocking Bangles ………. $9.97
I stuck with the purple thing that Olivia favored here. I found this pencil skirt in a nice, deep plum shade at Charlotte Russe. It’s not my first stop by any means when I’m looking for pencil skirts, but hey, it worked!
The top has a light, pretty little floral print, and is in shades of purple and grey, and matches the skirt nicely. It’s from Forever21, and that was not intentional, the Charlotte-Russe-Forever21 thing. It’s a little sheer, so you’ll need to wear the white tank top underneath it. I linked to that above the outfit picture, and it’s only $2.80, and keeps us well within our budget.
After all, when it comes to sheer blouses, you don’t want to make the same mistake I made that one time.
I went with black pumps. Pretty, professional, and simple. Nothing fancy. Yes, they’re probably ‘designed’ by Fergie. I don’t care for Fergie’s music. But whatever. These pumps will lengthen the line of the leg instead of cutting it off and making you look chunky.
As for jewelry, I threw in some textured bangles and left it at that.
And there we have a totally simple outfit, for less than $100, that WON’T make you look stumpy and unfortunate. YAY.
