Unlike a lot of other memes, I am going to finish this one. Today, Thursday, is Nine Loves day. I was glad this wasn’t supposed to be about nine people I’ve been in love with. Because there’s no way I’ve been in love with nine people. I rather wonder if I’ve ever been in love at all.
I think people think I’m in love with my LawSkoolBFF. That makes me feel awkward, because I’m not, and vice versa. I only say this because I know that, even if he were to read this, he wouldn’t be offended because it’s the truth, both ways.
(Watch, he’s totally offended and isn’t going to speak to me for a week. >:( Ugh. Actually…that could turn out to not be such a bad thing, as he always only says awful things to me anyway, because he is the worst person, and I am only ever nice to him, and certainly never heap abuse on him ever, much less constantly, every single time we talk.)
No, this is about nine things I love. So let’s get down to it.
9 Loves:
- Getting in my car and driving. Far. If I sound a little panicked if you call me up, it probably means I’m out of state, and don’t want anyone to find out because if news gets back to my parents that I was hanging out in Wisconsin or Indiana or whatever, I’d be dead.
- Long breakfasts at Maxfield’s in Lombard. The owners know me and are the sweetest people ever. The whole family is. The portions are huge and the food is so good, and the Kona coffee is the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted. It’s warm and cozy and friendly, and I’ve been known to sit there for three or four hours, enjoying my breakfast with a friend or two. Note: breakfast. Not brunch. I abhor brunch. I’m always at Maxfield’s a quarter past nine whenever I go, because that is an appropriate time for breakfast. Also, I usually love whoever I’m having breakfast with. I kind of have to love you if I’m willing to sit with you for three hours and do nothing but eat and talk. ;)
- Meditation/Relaxation. I usually set aside 45 minutes every day, or at least 20, to just sit back or lie down and meditate. It recharges my batteries, and my outlook on life. And it’s made me healthier than anything else I’ve tried. I sleep well now, and my back and shoulders and neck never hurt anymore, and my ulcer has calmed down, too. It made me really understand the horrible effects of stress and anxiety on the body. I’m going to do this for the rest of my life, inshaAllah.
- Dogs. It was Bukowski who said that dogs and angels are not very far apart. I agree. Dogs are so incredible. One of my favorite things to do is just to watch their facial expressions. They have about 200 unique ones. One of my friends once said, “Don’t try to be the person so and so wants you to be. Just try to be the person your dog thinks you are.” I love it because it’s so true: if you’re nice to it, and treat it well, a dog will just think you hung the moon.
- Chocolate eclairs. So sinful and decadent and delicious. Oh, god.
- Irish boys. Sigh. I know. I know. I can’t help it. My closest friends know of my weakness/fondness for Irish boys. I’ve been this way ever since my hormones kicked in. It’s occasionally been a problem. :-P
- My bed. I have the best bed. Everything about it is perfect. And it fits me perfectly, too. <3
- South Park and the Simpsons and Family Guy and American Dad. Yeah, they’re not the best shows. (South Park is, though.) But no matter what kind of day I’ve had, I can always watch one of these shows and everything will be fine. It doesn’t matter that I know all the episodes and most of the lines. I watch these shows when I’m happy or sad. I guess I just love that they’re such constants in my life. And pretty damn hilarious. Most of the time. Even when they’re awful, I find them hilarious. (Yes, I even like the lame seasons of the Simpsons.)
- Blankets. I’m always cold. And nothing makes me feel as loved or safe or pampered as being swaddled in a blanket.

I have a weak spot in my heart for irish boys as well :).
:D Yay! They are just the best and the worst at the same time.
I was awaiting your nine loves so I knew what it was meant to be. Now I know what to do.
Do you really hang out in Wisconsin or Indiana? seriously?
I consider long drives to be incredibly relaxing (if no traffic)…I used to drive from the city to albany in college all the time and I absolutely loved it.
#6 – Hi, my name is problem.
Yes, I do hang out in Wisconsin/Indiana/Michigan occasionally. :) There’s this awesome dairy farm in Indiana, the largest family owned dairy farm in the US, about two hours from my house, that has the BEST cheese ever. I went once with my good friend from high school who LOVES cows and we saw a bunch of calves being born and saw an exhibit trying to sanitize the “owned by the devil” image off of Monsanto corn (didnt’ work) and had THE BEST ICE CREAM EVAR.
Also I go to Milwaukee, and have plans to meet my BFF in Sheboygan for lunch, and later in Green Bay (which is 4 hours away). I love Wisconsin. God knows Wisconsin and Indiana are better to hang out in than Iowa. :P
And yes. Irish boys. Ahem. Like I said, it’s been a problem for, like, a decade.
High five for not liking brunch either! I don’t get it. We’re not Hobbits. You either have breakfast or you have lunch. Don’t try to have both and drink alcohol. Choose one or the other people! Or have breakfast as lunch or lunch as breakfast!
Exactly! The time makes no sense! Are you supposed to wake up at your normal time and eat breakfast and then go out to eat brunch a couple hours later? Doesn’t that defeat the point? Are you not supposed to eat until 10 or 11 when you have brunch? That is NOT healthy. WTF. Brunch makes no sense.
HEY! You definitely said above that you love the people you have breakfast with. I definitely had breakfast with you while I was in Chicago. Ergo, you definitely LURVE ME.
I just won the future.
>:(
Stop being troublesome.
Oh. M. Gee. I read this after posting mine. I love that our opinions on dogs are exactly the same.
Also, chocolate eclairs are to die for, but do you ever eat Napoleans? So delicious. There is also this dessert at Piccolo Sogno that is pastry puff drenched in powdered sugar with chocolate chip custard layered in between. HOLY CRAP IT’S GOOD.
I love driving. I’ve always wanted to rent a convertible and take the Rt. 66 trip, blasting rock and roll, stopping at quirky motels to sleep, and arriving in LA. Surprisingly, no one is into that.
South Park is one of the smartest shows on television.
OMG No. I’ve never had those! They sound good! Also good? Profiteroles. It’s like, an eclair pastry layer (no filling just the pastry part) big scoop of ice cream, another pastry layer covered in chocolate and powdered sugar. SO GOOD.
And yes, south park is awesome. And I used to have a SWEET red Benz convertible that I loooooooooved to drive everywhere under the sun. It was a total dude magnet. The boys LOVED that car and used any excuse to strike up a conversation about it. When we first got it, Neighbor Boy hung out in our driveway for a week. :P It was hilarious.
