I was told by many people that I don’t include outfits that I wear often enough in this series. And they’re right. I don’t like talking about myself. I’m confusing. Besides, you nerds already know what I like. You know I love cardigans and sweater-dresses and boot-cut jeans and lingerie-inspired blouses or camisoles and that I buy a crapload of stuff from Victoria’s Secret (which I highly recommend because they have lovely things). And you know I’m small, so I wear tailored and structured things and blouses with ruffles and rouching on the top, and so on.
But, fine, here’s something that’s very close to what I was wearing on Tuesday. It was cold. I was not happy. But I did get to see my best gal pal from high school for lunch, so that was nice.
Here’s what I looked like on my little lunch excursion.
Girls’ Circo Denim Jeans in dark wash ………. $7
Cotton rib turtleneck sweater in persimmon ………. $19
Sonoma Life & Style Sash Belt ………. $24
Ludlow Boot in black ………. $39.90
Okay. I’m going to be honest with you nerds, mainly because I feel we’ve reached that point in our relationship where I can tell you these things.
I sometimes wear little girls’ jeans.
It’s true. I know you’re all shocked and you don’t know what to believe anymore and you’re feeling a little vulnerable, but please, hear me out. I wear girls’ jeans not because I want to, but because sometimes, they just fit.
Shopping for pants sends me into fits of depression and rage. Big girl pants are too long, and when they’re long enough, they’re way too loose at the waist. It doesn’t help that I can pull off every single pair of pants I own without undoing any zips or buttons, but still. I’m talking, like, give them a little tug and you’ll be seeing London, France, and some other fun things. When the pants actually fit at the waist, they don’t fit at the hip/thigh, or they’re too short.
So, sometimes, little girls’ jeans turn out to be Baby Bear’s bowl of porridge: just right. You know by now that I’m small. I’m 5 feet and half an inch, and I weigh 97 lbs. and I WEAR SIZE 12 SLIM JEANS IN LITTLE GIRLS’ SIZES OKAY YES I KNOW THEY’RE FOR 12 YEAR OLDS SO DROP IT ALREADY.
So.
Dark wash boot cut jeans in size 12 slim. I like dark wash because I just like dark pants in general, and plus, they’re slimming. And add boot-cut to the dark pants, and you’ve got a doubly-slimming that’s flattering on just about every single body shape. Win.
The jeans I tucked into the slouchy suede boots with the silver buckles. Over that, I was wearing a long-ish red sweater with short sleeves. It was brighter than this red (persimmon), like a bright, vibrant red. Sitting on my hips (not at my waist, which would have been disgusting because I have no waist) was a black leather sash belt with a cool silver buckle. The one pictured above is kind of similar, but not really. My buckle was silver and blocky and chunky.
Since it was cold, I wore a hooded cable-knit sweater in camel over this get-up. High of 53 on a Tuesday, when it was 70 on Sunday. Unreal. Sadly, we Chicagoans are used to it.
And that’s about it. That’s what I looked like, wearing red lipgloss, a silver-and-ruby pendant necklace, and with my hair down in rumpled waves.
(I rock the rumpled look more often than not, mostly because I like to sleep. Mmm, sleep.)

I think it’s cool that you can get away with buying girl’s size jeans. It’s certainly cheaper for one thing :) And you are lovely, cute and pocket-sized…I’ll admit it. I’m jealous. And other than the belt, which I can’t wear because I don’t have a waist either-but that’s because I’m a girl with some junk in her trunk-I LOVE the outfit. Especially those boots. I must have those boots.
The boots are great! Apparently teh belt is brown?! I thought it was black. Whatever. I was in a hurry.
And yeah, I stay AWAY from belts as a general rule. First, I hate the ones that actually go in your belt loops. Anything that constricts my tum-tum reminds me of when I was a kid, getting carsick, with that bottom part of the seat belt strapped right over my stomach. It just brings back the dry heaves. Hate belts.
As for little chain belts and sash belts that you wear higher on the waist, I will OCCASIONALLY go for those. Very rarely, though. Because yeah I have no waist. I look ridiculously anorexic if I wear a belt right at the narrowest pinch of my waist.
Also it’s probably because I don’t know how to wear belts right. Whatever.
And yeah, little girls’ clothes are cheap. :-P Win. I mean, I’ve got my expensive jeans from Express that miraculously fit (ie, tailored a bit; I hate getting stuff tailored), but the little girl jeans help fill out my closet.
Why must you make me feel like a big giant compared to your 97-lb-ness?
Also why must you make me feel terrible for not keeping up with my FFF posts? Sigh.
Um…you are not big. You are tiny and ADORABLE.
And yes, you need to do more FFF posts. :-D So I can link them on Mondays. Hee! Win-win.
Very nice post. I’m discovering more about choosing the right womens jeans from reading the info on your website, then I’ve ever gotten from the advice given to me by my best friend. Now maybe I can stop wearing my BF’s jeans all the time ;P. Hope it’s ok that I share this post on Facebook?
Sure, go ahead, no need to ask.
