I got a couple emails from people who follow my Twitter account, wanting to know what I wore on my first day as a 2L.
So I put together a look that is very, very similar to what I wore, but not quite out of my closet.
Silk Georgette Shirt ………. $48
Croft & Barrow Cable-Knit Cardigan in Oat Heather ………. $22.99
Alfani Slim-Leg Ankle Pants (SALE) ………. $19.99
Satin Ruffle Pumps (SALE) ………. $11.49
Distinctions: My cardigan was a little darker and much thinner. Also, not cable-knit. A very summery cardigan. My shirt was a pale mauve, uniform, not patterned. My shoes are almost exactly like that, only NO RUFFLE. And leather.
I don’t think I looked bad. I don’t think I looked traffic-stopping. I looked like I always do. :) It was a comfy look, since some of my classrooms were FREEZING, and I could ditch the cardigan once I stepped out into the hot Chicago afternoon. Even lakefront, it was hot. Trust. Plus, the heels don’t bother me as I trek around the building. I keep them in my locker because they’re black and go with everything, and I just wear flip flops or sneaks otherwise. Yeah, they look bad with dress pants, but who cares? Not I, y’all.
So. Pretty silk georgette shirt. I am big on silk in general. I don’t know how that happened. I have a couple silk blouses that are all satiny and such, but what I dislike about them is that they create bumps and bulges were there are no bumps or bulges. But they’re pretty so I keep them around. That’s usually my life mantra. I have a couple georgette blouses because they’re silk but lightweight and I just like the way the fabric falls.
Black dress pants are a staple. I am pretty short, so I just buy a couple identical black pants that fit me well on the waist, hip and thigh, and then just get them hemmed up to just below my ankle. That way they don’t drag or fray if I opt to stay in flats instead of wearing heels. I own about 8 pairs of the same black pants, all stitched up, so I’m set for the year. Beyond set.
Cardigan. I have so many cardigans in a rainbow of colors. Most of them are from Victoria’s Secrets because their clothes just fit my body really well. The cut is about as perfect as I have ever been able to find anywhere. Our building is cold and the sleeves on my blouse were short, so it was a no-brainer. Cardigans are an almost every-day thing for me. Plus, they’re so easy. I just put on my slacks, throw on a lacy camisole, grab my cardigan, and I’m done. It’s great because I’m not at my best in the morning. Once it took me about ten minutes to put on my damn pants because I found the whole two legs thing (my having two legs, the pants having two legs) very, very confusing.
This cardigan, like I’ve said, was very summery and light. It was kind of a dark nude color, and nude is very big right now. It’s all over the place! Not that I’m one to typically follow these trends of ‘what’s in right now’ – I’ve had this particular cardigan (and worn it) for about three years now. Meh.
And versatile black shoes in leather. Always leather. I love leather. I don’t care if that makes me a bad person. I eat meat and I wear leather. (Not everywhere; just shoes…jacket…wallet…gloves…cuff bracelet…crap, I wear a lot of leather.) PETA can just suck it.
That’s what I looked like on my first day of school for all you nosey-bodies. :)
