Mindy sent in a request for me to put together an outfit somewhat like this one that Leighton Meester (CW’s Gossip Girl) is wearing.
You know, if you’re going to knock off someone’s look, you could do a heck of a lot worse than THE Blair Waldorf. So let’s get started.

What I really loved about the look was the clean, sleek, flirty silhouette. Professional but still womanly.
I mimicked that with this slightly-too-long pencil skirt. I don’t like skirts that cut below the knee; petite girls have no business wearing things that go too far down over the kneecap. It makes us look stumpy. If you’re not feeling this skirt, any high waisted pencil skirt (silhouette-skimming) will work wonderfully.
I brightened up the look a little with a cobalt sweater instead of the dark navy Leighton’s wearing. Mostly because…I couldn’t find a decent navy sweater with short sleeves that wasn’t a snipped up henley. :-P
We’ve got the skinny black belt to cinch the outfit together, giving it a polished look fitting Ms. Waldorf, and even though you can’t see any feet in the picture, I picked out this pair of black and patterned oxfords. I like menswear-inspired pieces (don’t worry, I’ll never take it as ludicrously far as Rachel Bilson does; bleh!)
Here, they add interest to the outfit. Plus, the combination of this ultra-feminine silhouette, all girly and such, with the menswear-inspired shoes is just great. I’m a big fan of understated contrasts like that.
